Much of Canada's logging activity occurs on Crown (often referred to as "public") land and is regulated by
various commercial forest tenure (concession) systems that allocate cutting rights to and infers obligations
on private company recipients of the tenures. These obligations almost always include the requirement for the
companies to produce Forest Management/Development Plans that identify areas for future logging and associated
future developments such as road building.
The management/development plans made available here are intended to be a resource for anyone who is interested,
including those working on conservation issues. This website is a work in progress. We continue to post more data as we
obtain it. If you have any relevant maps or digital data that you are able to share, please contact
Global Forest Watch Canada, and we will endeavour to post such materials here
on our website.
An information gathering effort of this size on an activity of private commerce (albeit generated mostly from
Crown timber resources) so widely dispersed in ownership, tenure situation, and geography is impossible to
accomplish error-free. We invite readers and users to submit corrections and updates.
The work benefited from software donated by Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. (ESRI).
The Sierra Club of Canada and Global Forest Watch Canada wish to particularly thank those provincial governments
who supplied forest management plans in a digital format and the various companies whose plans are made available.
